INTRO TO HIKING EQUIPMENT

Learn about the key types of equipment and gear needed for multi-day to extended day hiking and trekking. The course is comprehensive and covers a lot of detail in a very practical, informative and usable way.  Courses are available Australia-wide.

COURSE OVERVIEW

​

This is a 1 day (8 hour) intro course covering all the key components of hiking equipment. This is an excellent intro course for people who would like learn about how to select, use and maintain basic and essential hiking equipment. The course includes demos and examples of a wide range of equipment types, brands and models offering you a unique insight into the latest gear and their capabilities and how you can maximise their use and capabilities on your trek.

This course is suitable for anyone interested in getting to know hiking equipment and its use. The course specifically suits novice or intermediate hikers, outdoor store assistants or people working in any outdoor education or adventure tour setting.

  • Backpack Fitting and Packing

  • Backpack Use & Techniques

  • Backpack Maintenance, Repair and Care

Hiking Stoves

​

  • Intro to Stoves

  • Stove Types, Capabilities & Selection

  • Stove Use & Performance

  • Stove Safety, Care and Risks

  • Stove Packing

Sleeping Gear ( Sleeping Bags and Mats)

  • Intro to Sleeping Bags and Mats

  • Sleeping Bag Types, Selection and Use

  • Sleeping Bag Extras ( i.e. liners etc)

  • Sleeping Mat Types, Selection and Use

COURSE STRUCTURE

​​

  • 9 Students Max/ Min 7

  • Day Course ( 8 Hours)

  • Start -  Saturday 830am

  • Finish -  Saturday 430pm

  • Meet on Location ( Exact location specified later)

  • BYO your own equipment if you wish

  • BYO your own consumables (food, drink, etc)

HOW IT WILL WORK

​

You will need to register your interest early and secure a spot. Once you have done that we will send you information about the course, the location and what you need to do to prepare.

​

The course will be conducted at one designated location for the whole day. We will supply an extensive range of equipment for demonstrations and practice. You can bring your own gear. There will be opportunities for the instructors to chat one on one and talk through any questions you have about your gear.

​

COURSE FEE

​

$150 per person

​

  • The fee will cover the instruction and park permits only.

  • You will be required to bring your own equipment ( if you want to, otherwise demo gear is available for instruction) and consumables ( food, water etc).

  • You will be required to arrange your own transport unless we can arrange course transportation.
